Saab Key Replacement
The loss of your car keys or misplacing them can be extremely annoying. If you have an extra key, adding the new key to your car is relatively cheap and easy.

Lost or Stolen keys

Every Saab since 1995 has been required to have an immobilizer system within the vehicle. This makes it nearly impossible to steal your car without a specific key. A transponder that is specialized for the vehicle must be embedded in the key to turn on the car and unlock doors. The key also needs a transmitter/transponder chip that needs to be matched with the car's computer module in order to work. This can only be done by a dealer, with the specially designed tool called a Tech-2 or a different type of software.
It is not recommended to remove the broken key from your ignition or lock. This could damage the lock and create other issues. If you attempt to force the broken lock or key out, it is likely to break the blade of the metal key or the mechanism for the lock. This can be much more expensive than hiring a locksmith replace the key.
Replacement

Owners of Saab automobiles from 1994 and on are advised to have at a minimum two keys that work for their vehicle. Replacing only one key is expensive and complicated. The dealer will need to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) in accordance with the model, as well as the key itself. Furthermore, it will need to be programmed to work with the new module. Keys that are claimed new from aftermarket sellers are usually not properly programmed and may fail to program correctly when you need them.
It is not unusual for the battery in the key fob to wear out after a couple of years of use, specifically if it is used often for locking and unlocking the car. The replacement of the battery in most SAAB 9-3 models can be done easily and doesn't require any special tools.
